Mr.Muhammad Akram Zaki was elected as a Member of the Senate from Federal Capital Islamabad for a six year term (March
21, 1997 - March 20, 2002). Senator Zaki belongs to the
Pakistan Muslim League, of which he has been an active member
since his retirement from the foreign service of Pakistan
in December 1993, |
| four decades (1954 - 1993). Even before
joining the foreign service in 1954, Mr. Zaki was actively
associated with the Pakistan Muslim League and earlier with
Pakistan Movement, since his early youth. Since 1994, he
has been working as adviser (Foreign Affairs) to the President
of Pakistan Muslim League. He is always vise-president of
Pakistan Muslim league. |

Diplomat, who has to his credit rich and varied diplomatic

| Family Background/Education |
Mr. Akram Zaki (Sheikh) was born at Gujranwala, Punjab,
Pakistan on October 27, 1931. His late father, Mr. Abdul
Majid Asghar (Sheikh), was a famous lawyer and jurist of
Punjab, Pakistan. He was an active member of the (All India)
Muslim League and played a prominent role in the Pakistan
Movement. Mr. Akram Zaki became involved in the Pakistan
Movement, while he was in High School. After passing Matriculation
examination (1947) from Mehboob Alam Islamia High School,
Gujranwala, Mr. Akram Zaki graduated (1951) with Philosophy
and Economics from the Forman Christian College, Lahore,
where he was also elected President of the Students Union.
He won many prizes and wide recognition as an outstanding
student debater. He obtained a Law Degree (L.L.B) from the
Punjab University in 1953 and joined the Lahore Bar. Later,
he obtained a Master's Degree from Fletcher School of Law
& Diplomacy, Medford, Mass, USA (1955). Mr. Zaki is
a wall-known poet in Pakistan's National language, Urdu. |
| Promotion Of Education |
Senator Akram Zaki developed deep interest in promoting
Education under the influence of his father (The late Abdul
Majid Asghar Sheikh) who as Secretary of "Anjuman-e-Himayat-ul-Islam"
and of the Islamia college, Lahore devoted later years of
his life to social work and particularly to education. While
in Foreign Service, Mr. Zaki served as Deputy Director at
the Civil Service Academy, Lahore, from July 1965 to November
1968, where he was responsible for training of the new entrants
to Civil Service and Foreign Service of Pakistan. He lectured
on International Law, Constitutional Law, Consular Law,
Diplomatic Theory, Practice and Protocol and Foreign Policies
of Major Powers. In 1977, he served as Member of the directing
Staff of the Pakistan Administrative Staff College, Lahore,
which is a senior level in service training institution.
He has also been giving special lectures at the National
Defence College, Command & Staff College, Quetta and
Institutes of Public Administration at Lahore, Peshawar
and Karachi.
He is the President of "Anjuman-e-Farogh-e-Taleem"
(An NGO, established 1997 and devoted to promotion of education),
Federal Capital Territory, Islamabad. |
